虹の橋で会おうね
Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and
our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together…

天国の入り口の手前に『虹の橋』と呼ばれる橋がある。この世で誰かと特別に親密な関係にあった動物は、この世の生を終えると皆『虹の橋』へ行く。そこには牧草地や丘があり、私たちの特別な友人達は皆一緒に走り回ったり遊んだり出来るのだ。十分な食べ物や水、陽の光に恵まれて、彼らは暖かく快適に過ごしている。
病気だったり年老いていた動物達すべてが健康を取り戻して元気になり、傷ついたり不自由な体になっていた者達も元の完全な体を取り戻す。私達が夢の中で過ぎ去った日々を思い出しているかの様に。
彼らは皆、ある点を除けば幸せで満ち足りている。皆それぞれ残して来た特別な誰かがそこにいない事を寂しく思っているのだ。
動物達は皆一緒に走り回り遊んでいる。が、その日がやって来た時、その中の一匹が突然立ち止まり、遠くを見つめている。彼の瞳はキラキラと輝き、喜びで体が震えている。突然、彼は皆から離れ、飛ぶ様に全速力で緑の草の上を駆け抜けて行く。彼はあなたを見つけたのだ。あなたとあなたの特別な友人は遂に再会を果たし、その喜びに満ちて固く抱き合い、もう２度と離れる事はない。幸せのキスの雨があなたの顔に注がれ、あなたの両手は愛しい友人を優しく撫でている。そして信頼に満ちた友の瞳を再び覗き込む。あなたの人生から長い間失われたままだっだ、でも決して心の中から消える事のなかったその瞳を。
そして、あなた方は一緒に『虹の橋』を渡って行くのだ。
稚拙な意訳で申し訳ありません。この『虹の橋』という詩は、作者不明のまま世界中の動物関連サイトに広まったものである。一部ではインディアンの古い伝承に基づいて作られたものだという説もある。敢えて胡散臭い話をするならば、所謂『スピリチュアルな世界』ではお馴染みらしいシルバーバーチという古代霊の霊訓（教えみたいなもんでしょうか?）とかいう代物に、よく似た記述がある様なのだ。このシルバーバーチさんの肖像画というのがあるらしく、その姿は正にインディアンなんだそうだ。案外この辺りから『虹の橋』のお話が出て来たのかもしれないなぁ…。
もしそうなら、胡散臭くても何でもいい。『虹の橋』でも何でもいい。本当にそんな場所があったら…。あって欲しいと願わずにはいられない。
あの子が逝ってしまってから1年…。必ず迎えに行くから、『虹の橋』で待っててね、ナナ。大好きだよ。
